I am so happy to have fulfilled a long time dream: to make a walkable labyrinth!

Recently, I attended Trinity United Church, and was welcomed by both the minister and the congregation. To express my gratitude for this warm welcome, I was inspired to make a labyrinth in the snowy church yard, directly adjacent to the sanctuary.

What is a Labyrinth?

"A labyrinth is a single path or unicursal tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths are thought to enhance right brain activity." ~ LabyrinthSociety.org

What is a Maze?

"A maze can have more than one entrance and numerous choices along the way. The walls are usually high so as to block one from seeing the way out. It is constructed to be a left-brain puzzle." ~ LabyrinthSociety.org

To me, a labryrinth is a form of walking meditation or moving prayer. The experience can bring new insights, stillness or ritual to your practice of spending time with God, and deeping your spirituality.

"The path has three stages - the 'inward' journey, the centre and the 'outward' journey. The theme of the 'inward' journey is letting go of things which hinder our wholeness and inner approach to God. The centre of the Labyrinth is a space of meditative prayer and peace. The theme of the 'outward' journey is relationship - with ourselves, with others and with the planet - seen in the light of our relationship with God."

Since creating the labyrinth a week ago, I have walked it twice a day. After repeating my walk of the winding path many times now, I have come to understand that walking a labyrinth is truly a practice, similar to the practice of yoga or tai chi. The more I practice (by walking the path), the more deeply it touches my spirit and reveals a beautiful stillness and connection.

My connection to the energy of the Spirit moves through me, in me and around me with every step and turn. I am so warmed with quiet joy. I am thank to have been called to make this beautiful new tool for stilling my mind listening to the small, quiet voice of God within.
