The truth will make you free. ~ John 8:32

Dear Brother in Christ,

Moments when truth breaks through fear, and courage overcomes social norms, when words are heard above trembling, and when voices crack through barriers... I believe these are the moments where Christ lived, and where Christ guides us to live in everything we do.

I look to understand who Jesus was, because I truly believe that he lived the truth of divine love on earth. How he lived on earth in full communion with God and with his humanity is one thing to read about it and have faith in, and it quite another to witness and experience this first hand through others in my life today.

Why is this important to me? Why does this even matter? Probably because, through the experiences of my lifetime, and in listening to the histories and herstories of generations of people in my circles, I have learned of very real cruelties, oppression, need and suffering. Sometimes, the suffering has been crushing and life-altering, imposing change as a response to fear, confusion or chaos. I have also been part of an incredible network of support that has moved the people I love through these experiences to something much greater than where they were before.

This legacy, is how I am currently understanding the resurrection. I guess I look for moments where this legacy comes to life today, because I, myself, have truths to tell that need to break through fear. I must summon courage to overcome social norms. I must have my voice heard above my trembling. To unhide elephants in rooms, and guide those elephants safely home.

I have something difficult to do. Something that relates to the what you had the courage to speak of the other day in church. Perhaps you will never read this. But I wanted to thank you again.

Thank you.
