The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it. (Matt 13:45)

Rare and abundant, meditation is a gift to spiritual practitioners around the world. I was happy to discover "a Pearl of great price" by Father Laurence Freeman. The book was found as a free link on the website founded for the World Christian Centre for Meditation (wccm.org). Father Laurence Freeman is the Director of this organization, and inspires many people, such as myself, to practice and learn about meditation.

a Pearl of great price is subtitled: "sharing the gift of meditation by starting a group". As a recent meditation group leader myself (I've now lead two sessions at my home church), I was interested to learn more not only about meditation but how to start and lead a small and simple group. Father Freeman's book provided the essential background of Christian meditation, practical information on how to structure a meditation time with others, as well as receiving more very helpful resources, such as how to approach your minister or congregation about starting the group, what to put on your public notice for the group, links to further meditation resources, etc.

a Pearl of great price can best be described as short and sweet. I feel greater confidence as a small group meditation leader, and look forward to putting my new skills and learnings into practice.

Thank you for this lovely helpful book ~ Aaron M.
