"I am not perfect"... through vividly told tales, it enables us to accept the inevitability of pain and failure so that we can ease the hurt and move toward serenity and wholeness." ~ The Spirituality of Imperfection

The Spirituality of Imperfection: Storytelling and the Search for Meaning, by Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham, is a book of wisdom and spiritual illumination. The premise of "I am not perfect" is the book's simple statement truth, that serves as source of inspiration and storytelling.

Researching for this blog post, I discovered the Japanese art called "Kintsukuroi". This art parallels the ideas shared in the book The Spirituality of Imperfection. The book used the ancient art of storytelling... which was so wonderful to read. Stories and storytelling, for me, seem to inspire my inner child, adult and senior. And so, in my review of this book, I shall employ an art as well: the art of kintsukuroi.

How precious are we that even broken, even imperfect, we are treasured by the Master Potter. Molded from clay, our purpose, our very selves are works of art.

How beautiful it is to be so precious in God's sight. How beautiful is the work of the Master Goldsmith... knowing that the One recognizes our worth even as our bodies, minds and spirits are in pieces. How loving is the Master Goldsmith who takes the time to collect our pieces. How beautiful is the hand of the One who forges our brokenness into something even more beautiful and more meaningful than we could ever have imagined.

How much more beautiful are we to have been repaired ~ our brokenness, our failings, our imperfections healed, made whole and treasured... now gleaming in gold. I praise and thank the good work of the Goldsmith <3

The Spirituality of Imperfection is one of those books: it is wise and it is honest. A true favourite that I'll be sure to read again and again. Do pick it up... or borrow it from a friend. ~ aa
